+
+### Critical Missing Features
+
+These are NIPs whose absence significantly limits Grimoire as a developer tool:

+#### 1. NIP-17 + NIP-44 + NIP-59: Private Direct Messages (HIGH PRIORITY)
+**Impact**: Cannot send or receive DMs — a fundamental communication channel.
+
+The adapter skeleton already exists and is commented out. The blocking dependency is NIP-44 (encryption) and NIP-59 (gift wrap). This is the single largest feature gap for any Nostr client.
